Background

Dr. Young holds a doctoral degree in Clinical-Community Psychology from the University of La Verne in Southern California. While training to become a clinician, Dr. Young dedicated herself to the community of clients with intellectual disabilities as Respite Care staff and Behavior Interventionist for children and adults with specific learning disabilities, neurological disorders, and autism.

To conclude her training, Dr. Young published her Dissertation study of 500 women who attend Church in Los Angeles and underscored the significance of Psychologists’ duty to assess African American women for cultural identity status, spiritual and religious beliefs, and their perception of safety within intimate partner relationships at the start of therapy. Suitably, Dr. Young currently mentors youth and young adults in South Los Angeles providing domestic violence awareness, prevention, and safety planning workshops. In the community, she has also used her research to contribute to policy change in curricula, bullying awareness, and intervention in Los Angeles and Claremont school districts.
