About Dr. Chappell

Dr. Courtney Chappell is a registered psychological associate with specialized doctoral level training in the treatment of mood disorders, substance abuse, and distress related to chronic medical illness. Dr. Chappell has worked in community mental health and medical settings providing psychological assessment and therapeutic services to children, adults, couples, and groups. She tailors treatment for each individual using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), family systems, anger management, and mindfulness techniques. Her background in research and program development informs her integrated perspective and enhances her ability to tailor treatment to meet the needs of the patients that she treats.

Background

Dr. Chappell earned a dual Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Southern University and A&M Colleges and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University in Silicon Valley, California. She completed her American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) via Rochester Regional Health, an outpatient mental health and addiction medicine clinic that provides individual and group services to various clinical populations. There she worked within a multidisciplinary team that utilized evidence-based treatment models such as CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to treat severe and persistent mental illness. As a predoctoral intern at RIT, Dr. Chappell also assisted in developing a program that uses behavioral health technologies to increase accessibility of services within the homeless population in the Rochester area.

Dr. Chappell is currently an unlicensed psychologist completing her post-graduate hours towards licensure. She provides individual, couples, and family therapy services as a Psychological Associate (PSB94025971) under the supervision of Dr. Narineh Hartoonian (PSY26980), a clinical psychologist at the Rowan Center for Behavioral Medicine.
