Colorado Mental Health Therapy Specialties
Plenty of practices cover the everyday concerns. Rowan goes further, into the areas few Colorado therapists train for: health psychology for chronic illness and medical adjustment, rehabilitation psychology after injury or disability, and the mental weight of serious medical and neurological conditions. That depth changes outcomes. When your psychologist genuinely understands the condition you're living with, care fits more precisely and progress comes sooner, the kind of measurable improvement our work is built around.

Support for living with chronic illness and adjusting to a diagnosis, for the part of healing that medicine alone leaves untouched.

Anxiety
Panic, constant worry, social fear, and the slow narrowing of your life that avoidance creates over time.
See our approach →Depression
Lingering low mood, drained motivation, and the pulling-away that generic advice never quite reaches.
Explore treatment →ADHD
Attention, executive function, and the patterns that follow adults with ADHD into work, home, and relationships.
Explore treatment →Grief & Loss
Loss, anticipatory grief, and the quieter erosion of identity that major life change brings.
See our approach →Autism (Adults)
Support for autistic adults making their way through a world not built for how they think and connect.
Explore treatment →Chronic Illness
Help carrying the psychological weight of a medical condition that treatment alone does not fully settle.
Chronic illness therapy →Chronic Pain
When pain and emotional distress keep feeding each other, we work on both together rather than one at a time.
See our approach →Insomnia & Sleep
CBT-I and behavioral methods that target the thinking behind sleeplessness, not just the restless nights.
Explore treatment →Functional Neurological Disorder
FND symptoms are real, never imagined, and call for a therapist who genuinely understands the condition.
See our approach →Brain Injury
Psychological care after a TBI, concussion, stroke, or any injury that shifted how you think and feel.
Explore treatment →Neurological Conditions
Therapy for the emotional side of living with a diagnosed neurological disease, day to day.
See our approach →Cancer Support

See our approach →Infertility
The grief, pressure, and relationship strain that ride alongside fertility challenges and family planning.
Explore treatment →Disability
Counseling that gets the overlap of disability, identity, and the realities of daily functioning.
See our approach →Trauma & PTSD
Evidence-based care for trauma that still lives in the body and nervous system, not only in memory.
See our approach →How We Work: Our Evidence-Based Methods
What does evidence-based care really look like once you're in the room? Rowan therapists don't lock you into one method. We draw from the approaches with the strongest research behind them for your situation, and adjust as your needs change.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Structured work on the thought patterns behind anxiety, depression, and avoidance. It is the most researched therapy there is.
Learn more →Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Loosens the grip of painful thoughts while keeping you pointed at what genuinely matters to you.
Learn more →Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
Catches the depressive spiral before it tightens, drawing on decades of clinical study.
Learn more →Humanistic & Existential Therapy
Meaning, identity, and the questions that surface when life veers off the plan. Depth work for when easing symptoms is not the whole goal.
Learn more →Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Practical skills for steadying emotions, riding out distress, and repairing relationships that keep going sideways.
Learn more →Motivational Interviewing (MI)
A collaborative way through change that keeps stalling, especially when one part of you wants the opposite of another.

What Our Colorado Clients Say
Hear from people who found relief through therapy at Rowan Center.
After my second was born the worry didn't switch off the way everyone promised it would. I couldn't picture loading two kids into the car to sit in a waiting room, so I kept putting it off. Doing sessions during the baby's nap meant I actually showed up every week. My therapist helped me tell the difference between a real problem and my brain inventing one. That alone gave me my mornings back.
K.M.
I lost my dad last spring and told myself I was handling it because I was still going to work. I wasn't handling it, I was just busy. Talking to someone who didn't rush me through the hard parts, and who gave me actual tools instead of platitudes, is the reason I can say his name now without coming apart.
J.R.
Managing a chronic illness is a full time job nobody trained me for, and the mental side of it gets ignored at every appointment. Working with a psychologist who understood the medical piece, not just the feelings piece, changed how I cope on the bad days. I stopped treating every flare as a personal failure.
D.L.
i picked video mostly because the idea of a waiting room full of strangers made my skin crawl, which in hindsight was kind of the whole problem. a few months in and i raised my hand in a meeting last week without rehearsing it forty times first. small thing, except it wasn't.
A.C.
My marriage looked fine on paper and was quietly falling apart in the spaces between. I started therapy for myself, not to fix us, and somewhere in there I learned how much I'd been swallowing to keep the peace. Saying things out loud, even just to my therapist at first, made me braver about saying them at home.
M.B.
I'm not a talk about your feelings kind of guy, and I booked the first session mostly to get my wife off my back. What kept me coming was that it felt practical, like working a problem instead of sitting in one. The short fuse my kids used to brace for is mostly gone now.
T.W.
Living a couple hours from the nearest decent therapist used to mean the choice was a half day off work or nothing. Telehealth erased that math. I do my session from my kitchen table on the Western Slope and get the same care I'd have had to drive to Denver for. The panic I came in with has loosened its grip a lot.
S.H.
moved out here for the mountains and a job and figured the rest would sort itself out. it didn't, and a year in i was lonelier than i'd ever been. starting therapy before i even had real furniture felt a little absurd, but it gave me one steady hour a week that was mine. i feel like a person again instead of someone just passing through.

Schedule a ConsultationColorado Therapy Questions, Answered
Is online therapy legal in Colorado?
Yes. Licensed Colorado therapists can legally provide telehealth to anyone physically located in Colorado at the time of the session. Rowan psychologists are licensed in Colorado or authorized through PSYPACT, and our therapists and counselors hold active Colorado licenses. All sessions use a HIPAA-compliant video platform. If you travel out of state, we pause sessions or coordinate with a licensed provider in that state.
Does Rowan Center accept my Colorado insurance?
Rowan is in-network with Medicare, Aetna, and Cigna, and credentialed with TRICARE West as non-network providers. We also work with WA Worker’s Comp (L&I). For PPO plans we do not contract with, we provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. HSA and FSA work for most services. We verify your benefits before your first session.
How much does therapy at Rowan cost?
Session rates depend on who you work with. Our licensed psychologists charge $275-$350 per individual session. Couples and family sessions range from $190-$350 depending on provider. If you use insurance we are in-network with, your cost is whatever your plan sets, often a copay between $20 and $60 per session. Out-of-network PPO patients typically pay the full fee up front and get reimbursed through a superbill. We accept check, credit/debit, and HSA cards. For a full breakdown, see our payment information page.
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
No. Many Colorado clients come to Rowan without a formal diagnosis. Stress, life transitions, grief, or a new medical diagnosis all qualify as reasons to start. If insurance is billing, your therapist will identify an appropriate diagnostic code from your intake, but a diagnosis is a billing tool, not a gate to care.
How do I verify a therapist is licensed in Colorado?
Look up any Colorado-licensed therapist’s name on the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) provider credential search. Rowan’s Colorado team includes psychologists licensed in Colorado or authorized through PSYPACT, plus therapists and counselors licensed by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Each therapist’s license or PSYPACT authorization is listed on their profile page.
What if my therapist is not the right fit?
Tell us. Fit is the strongest predictor of good outcomes, and we would rather match you with a better-fit therapist on our team than have you stop therapy. We can usually reschedule you with a new provider within a week. There is no charge to switch inside the practice.
Is Rowan accepting new Colorado patients?
Yes. Our Colorado team has openings for new patients most weeks, online across Colorado. A free 15-minute consultation is the fastest way to check fit and get scheduled. If we are full in a specialty, we refer you to a vetted Colorado therapist outside our practice.
How private and secure is online therapy with Rowan?
Every session runs on a secure, HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform. Your clinical notes live in an encrypted, HIPAA-compliant electronic health record. We never share your information with employers, schools, or family members without your written consent.
Do you offer in-person therapy in Colorado?
Not at this time. All Colorado care is online, with secure video sessions on your schedule from anywhere in the state. Clinically the research is clear: for most of what we treat, video therapy works as well as in-person, with no commute and easier weekly consistency. If in-person matters to you, contact us and we will note your interest and let you know as that changes.
Do I need to live near Denver to work with Rowan?
No. We work with people by telehealth from the Front Range to the Western Slope and everywhere between. Colorado care is online only right now, so you can meet with your therapist from anywhere in the state. If in-person ever matters to you, contact us and we will note your interest.
What specialties do you offer for Colorado residents?
Health psychology, rehabilitation psychology, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, brain injury, chronic illness adjustment, couples and family therapy, and teen and adolescent therapy. Each has a dedicated team and a detailed page explaining our approach.
How quickly can I get a first appointment?
Most Colorado clients book a first consultation within three to five business days. For active crisis or safety concerns, call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room, then reach out to us for ongoing care.
