We specialize where most practices do not: health psychology for chronic illness and medical adjustment, rehabilitation psychology after injury or disability, and the psychological side of neurological and medical diagnoses. What Our New York Clients Say
Hear from people who found relief through therapy at Rowan Center.
I'll admit I was a skeptic. Eight years of fibromyalgia, every specialist in the book, and I expected therapy to be the soft option that wouldn't change anything physical. I was wrong about that. I won't pretend the pain is gone, but I understand my flare triggers now and I can get ahead of them. That has been worth a great deal to me.
M.R.
For twenty years I thought the stomach stuff and the racing heart were just me. Turns out it was anxiety this whole time. My mood has done a complete 180 and I'm finally sleeping through the night. My husband says I'm a different person.
J.D.
Got hit with depression after my diagnosis and figured I'd just have to live with it. I didn't. Tools that worked, not just talk. Big difference. Recommend.
S.L.
I figured bad sleep was just part of my personality at this point. Turns out there's an actual approach for it. Took a few weeks, but I sleep now, no meds. Kind of annoyed I waited so long.
A.C.
When my mom passed I really thought I was okay, I went back to work, kept busy, did all the things you're supposed to do. Then a few months later it all caught up with me at once. Talking it out here, really talking, not just venting, helped me stop running from it. I still miss her every day, but it doesn't knock me over anymore.
K.B.
Honestly the best decision I've made for myself in years!! I'd been to other therapists who just didn't get OCD. After maybe ten sessions here, the intrusive thoughts that used to run my whole day are so much quieter. I can't recommend this place enough.
D.H.
I'd carried something for a long time and never said it out loud to anyone. I finally did, here. It was not easy. I'm steadier now than I've been in years.
R.M.
Retiring hit me a lot harder than I ever expected. I ran a department for almost forty years and then one Monday I just... didn't. Felt useless, frankly, and the anxiety crept in from there. The work I did here helped me figure out who I am now, not who I was. I'm enjoying this chapter more than I thought I would.

Schedule a ConsultationFrequently Asked Questions About New York Therapy
Is online therapy legal in New York?
Yes. Licensed New York psychologists can legally provide telehealth to anyone physically located in New York at the time of the session. Both Rowan psychologists serving New York hold active New York licenses and use a HIPAA-compliant video platform. If you travel out of state, we pause sessions or coordinate with a licensed provider in that state.
Does Rowan Center accept my New York insurance?
Rowan is in-network with Medicare, Aetna, and Cigna, and credentialed with TRICARE East as non-network providers. For PPO plans we do not contract with, we provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. HSA and FSA work for most services. We verify your benefits before your first session.
How much does therapy at Rowan cost?
Session rates depend on who you work with. Our licensed psychologists charge $275-$350 per individual session. Couples and family sessions range from $190-$350 depending on provider. If you use insurance we are in-network with, your cost is whatever your plan sets, often a copay between $20 and $60 per session. Out-of-network PPO patients typically pay the full fee up front and get reimbursed through a superbill. We accept check, credit/debit, and HSA cards.
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
No. Many New York clients come to Rowan without a formal diagnosis. Stress, life transitions, grief, or a new medical diagnosis all qualify as reasons to start. If insurance is billing, your therapist will identify an appropriate diagnostic code from your intake, but a diagnosis is a billing tool, not a gate to care.
How do I verify a therapist is licensed in New York?
Look up any therapist’s name on the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions license search. Rowan’s New York psychologists are licensed by the New York State Education Department. Each therapist’s license number is listed on their profile page.
What if my therapist isn't the right fit?
Tell us. Fit is the strongest predictor of good outcomes, and we would rather match you with a better-fit therapist on our team than have you stop therapy. We can usually reschedule you with a new provider within a week. There’s no charge to switch inside the practice.
Is Rowan accepting new New York patients?
Yes. Our New York team has openings for new patients most weeks. A free 15-minute consultation is the fastest way to check fit and get scheduled. Both of our New York psychologists see new patients via telehealth, and we can usually match you within one to two weeks.
How private and secure is online therapy with Rowan?
Every session runs on a secure, HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform. Your clinical notes live in an encrypted, HIPAA-compliant electronic health record. We never share your information with employers, schools, or family members without your written consent.
What is online therapy like at Rowan?
You meet with your psychologist over secure video using any laptop, tablet, or phone. No software to install. Sessions run close to an hour, the same as in-person care, and your calendar stays consistent because there is no commute. Research from the NIMH and APA is consistent: for the conditions we treat, telehealth outcomes match in-person care. Most clients find the format easier to sustain than a clinic visit, especially around work and family schedules.
Do I need to be in a specific city in New York to work with Rowan?
No. We see people by telehealth from New York City to Buffalo and everywhere in between, statewide. You just need to be physically located in New York at the time of your session. Most clients join from home, but some call in from a parked car or a private office at work. As long as you’ve got a secure internet connection and some privacy, the location is up to you.
What specialties do you offer for New York residents?
Health psychology, rehabilitation psychology, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, brain injury, chronic illness adjustment, couples and family therapy, and teen and adolescent therapy. Each has a dedicated team and a detailed page explaining our approach.
How quickly can I get a first appointment?
Most New York clients book a first consultation within three to five business days. For active crisis or safety concerns, call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room, then reach out to us for ongoing care.
